First and foremost it goes without saying that the safety of your child and our staff is our top priority. We are working hard, following the latest government guidance, to develop and implement a number of new ways of operating. This will allow us to open as safely as possible, focusing on measures that will help limit the risk of coronavirus transmitting in our setting.
We ask anyone who is displaying coronavirus symptoms, (a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or a loss of, or change to, your sense of smell or taste) or who lives with someone who does, to NOT attend the setting. This includes children and staff who work here. Please also let us know if your child or a family member become ill when away from preschool (between sessions or at the weekend).
Outlined below are some of the steps we are taking:
*We will be keeping groups of children to a maximum of 16 per group. If your child is aged 2-3 they will be in Star group with Heather and Mandi (the top part of the hall) Children aged 3-4 will be in Shooting stars group with Angela and Natalie towards the rear of the hall. (You will be advised which group your child will be in and which staff member will be their key worker separately).
*We will be cleaning our hands and using hand sanitisers/alcohol rub more often. We have developed routines to ensure children understand when and how to wash their hands, making sure they wash them for at least 20 seconds using running water and soap and drying them thoroughly with single use towels, and using hand sanitiser to cover their whole hand.
*We will be providing more tissues around the setting and pedal bins and ensuring children understand good respiratory hygiene by promoting the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach.
*We will be implementing an enhanced cleaning schedule, ensuring surfaces touched by children and staff are cleaned regularly and throughout the day, including table tops, tuff trays, door handles and play equipment.
Arrivals and Collection
If your contact details change or change temporarily please ensure we have the correct details for the first point of contact for that day by advising of this prior to the session by text. It is imperative we are able to contact you at all times during your child’s session.
We will be asking parents to physically distance from each other and staff when dropping off and collecting children and to ask that only one parent per household does this.
*On arrival at the village hall there will now be 2 entrances and exits at two different times. Please do not touch the gate or door and wait for a staff member to open/close it.
Shooting stars please arrive at the village hall promptly at 9.05am and use the rear fire exit door that leads into the garden. Please use the markers on the floor to maintain social distancing and only step forward when you are called by a staff member. Your child will be welcomed into pre-school by a member of staff and shown where to put their belongings then they will be asked to sanitise their hands before entering the hall.
At collection time please find a marker on the ground at the rear gate and stand on it and we will bring your child out to you in the order you have arrived in. Please arrive promptly but be prepared that collection time may take a few minutes longer than you might be used to. If we have any important information to relay to you about your child we will communicate this to you via text to avoid any lengthy conversations or we will send out your child last and speak with you.
Stars please arrive at the village hall promptly at 9.20am and use the front main entrance. Please use the markers on the floor to maintain social distancing and only step forward when you are called by a staff member. Your child will be welcomed into pre-school by a staff member and helped with their belongings, they will be helped to sanitise their hands before entering the main hall.
At collection time please find a marker on the ground at the front main entrance and stand on it and we will call you forwards to collect your child. Please arrive promptly but be prepared that collection time may take a few moments longer than you might be used to. If we have any important information to relay to you about your child we will communicate this to you via text to avoid any lengthy conversations or we will send out your child last and speak with you.
We understand and sympathise with you (as parents ourselves) that drop off and collection may be upsetting for all children as they may be new to the setting or have had prolonged time with you and away from pre-school. Our priority at this time will be to ensure the children in our care adapt to their new routines and we will support you and your child at this time.
Please note the member of staff opening the door/gate will be wearing a visor.
Drinks, snacks and Lunches
Please provide a labelled bottle/cup of water for your child that will be kept at pre-school at all times and washed then refilled with water everyday as we cannot provide our cups at this time. Snack bar is temporarily haltered and instead your child will be for now offered a plain biscuit or breadstick at snack times alongside a hand held fruit/ vegetable batton that is easy to eat without the need for a plate.
If your child is staying for lunch (1pm or 3pm collection time) please send their lunch in a clearly labelled disposable paper/plastic bag and the contents where applicable wrapped in foil/cling so it can be disposed of afterwards (including disposal spoon/fork if providing yoghurt/pasta etc )We will not be sending anything from their lunch boxes home.
We suggest a sandwich or alternative savoury item with a piece of fruit (cut if needed and please always ensure grapes are cut in half lengthways to minimise choking hazard) and another small item you know your child likes and will eat.
Please do not send your child to pre-school with toys from home, comforters (labelled) if absolutely necessary are ok to support your child to settle.
Please provide a labelled pair of wellington boots that fit as these will be kept at pre-school long term and used in the garden area daily (in all weathers).
Please do not bring in bags – We will ensure we have clean, spare clothes in setting.
Please put your child in comfortable clothes that you don’t mind them getting dirty and wash all clothes daily. It might be worth having a few sets of ‘pre-school clothes’. We also sell a few items of clothing with the pre-school logo (order form enclosed). Please ensure your child wears clothes suitable for the weather forecast for that day. We are trying to minimise items from home being brought into setting. The staff will be wearing ‘scrub’ style clothing which will be washed daily at a high temperature.
Nappies and wipes
We will now be providing wipes and nappies and of course hand sanitisers and soaps. If your child has an allergy/sensitivity to certain brands/products or any other specific needs in this area please let us know and we can chat about this. Staff will as always be wearing disposable aprons and gloves between each nappy change.
Please apply sun cream to your child at home before they enter the setting if sunny weather is likely.
Toys and equipment in setting
At this time, we will not be able to put out soft furnishings such as rugs, blankets and cushions. There will be no dressing up outfits or soft cuddly toys as these items are difficult to clean daily.
Malleable play (playdough, pasta, rice etc) will be provided but will have to be thrown away after use by individual groups during each session.
Toys and equipment that are easy to clean will be put out and cleaned daily for each group.
We will try and make the most of the outside space, there will be a few limitations on what we have out.
We understand there are lots of changes and although some of them sound scary and unfamiliar we need to keep your child and ourselves safe at this unprecedented time.
